Cleaning Your Floor
Vacuum, dry mop or sweep to remove any loose dirt or grit. The best method of removing dirt and grit is vacuuming with a soft brush attachment on your vacuum. If using the microfiber mop to dry mop, remove any loose dirt or grit after dry-mopping by rinsing with water and wringing out the mop pad prior to cleaning floor with Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner. Do not use any wax or cleaner that must be mixed with water, such as oil soap. Also, do not use wax, polish, abrasive cleaners, steel wool or scouring pads. Using these items for cleaning may ruin your floor and result in the loss of the warranty for your floor's finish.
When a spill occurs, soak up the liquid right away. Mist the area with cleaner, and wipe with your Bona Microfiber mop or a Microfiber Floor Cloth.
Preventing Cracks or Buckling of Wood Planks
Try to maintain an indoor relative humidity level of 40% to 60% throughout the year to minimize the natural expansion and contraction of wood. Extremely low humidity can cause cracks to develop between planks of wood. High humidity can cause wood to expand which can create buckling or ridges to form between planks. During the winter a humidifier can increase the humidity of your house. In the summer, air conditioning or a dehumidifier will reduce humidity. This is especially important during the winter or when using a wood stove or electric heat, which tends to cause very dry conditions.
All hardwood floors will fade, darken or change shades over time. Exposure to sunlight will greatly increase this process.
Window treatments are recommended, as well as rotating area rugs and furniture regularly to allow floors to age evenly from UV exposure.
Cover furniture and table legs with protectors to guard your floor against damage. Take care when moving heavy objects across your floor to avoid scuffing.
Stiletto heels can cause dents and scratches that are not covered by your warranty. Love your pet but regularly trim their nails or claws to avoid scratches on the hardwood floor. The point here is to be cautious of sharp objects that may scratch or damage the floor. Tread carefully!
